Bob Rebello – just an ordinary guy
Dear [fname],
It has been 2 months since my last Newsletter and during that time I have recovered from my Stockholm Marathon Achilles injury and a number of important Milestones were completed in my quest to raise $100k for Kidney Cancer Research in memory of my brother, and best friend, John.
Achilles Injury Recovery Program:
My Achilles injury recovery program covered 10 weeks of no running – which was very difficult for me to do because I was used to running an average of 30 to 40 miles/week before the injury. The recovery program also consisted of weight training, Elliptical machine, bike, stretching, and swimming/Aqua jogging 3 days/week at the Mission Valley YMCA where I am a member. I started running again on August 15th and since that date I have completed long runs of 14, 15, and 16 miles without any major Achilles problems. At present I am training to run a number of 5k and 10k races for my charity along with a ½ marathon by the end of the year – stay tuned.
Important Milestones That Were Completed:
The important milestones that were completed during the last 2 months are as follows:
- $70k Donations Milestone:
We exceeded our $70k donations milestone on August 13th when I received a donation from Alex, which brought our 11-year total raised to $70,034.20. We have now raised $5,031.20 for the Stockholm marathon and we only need to raise $4,965.80 to reach our next 2009 Donations Milestone of $75k.
- 50 US States Donations Milestone:
We have now received donations from 25 US States. On August 13th I received a donation from the great state of Washington - thank you David. Check out the US map below to see the 25 states that have donated [Green] and the 25 states that have not made donations [Red].You can help to bring awareness to kidney cancer by forwarding the newsletter to friends, family, etc; who live in the 25 states [Red] that have yet to donate to this very worthy cause
- 1,000 Total Donations Milestone:
We have now received donations from 924 individuals over the last 11 years and we are only 76 donations away from our 1,000 donations milestone.
- KUSI TV San Diego Interview:
I was interviewed on KUSI TV San Diego on August 18th - to see the interview on my website click here.
Donations Update:
Although these are difficult timesI am very optimistic that with the continued support and encouragement of people like you we will meet this year’s donations goal of $10,000.00 for such a very worthy cause. For your information I have broken down the Stockholm, Sweden marathon for kidney cancer research donations by the month they were made.

Worldwide Marathons Donations Sources:
As you can see from the 1999 to 2009 donation sources we have now brought kidney cancer awareness to 25 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. We recently received a donation from the great state of Washington, which brought the total US states that have donated to 25. To help bring awareness to the other 25 US states [red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer. We are close to coloring all of the New England states green, we only need donations from the states of Maine and Vermont. If you know someone in those states please forward the newsletter to them so that they can become a part of this very worthy cause.

I would not be able to publish my monthly newsletters without the very creative Graphic design work of Christian Riggs, President of Riggs Creative Group. Christian has not only given his time and design expertise to the newsletter but he also designed and maintains my website.
Listed below are my corporate sponsors who have generously donated their “Best in Class” products and services to help me meet my mission. Without their generous support it would be very difficult for me to continue my mission.
Have a great day,
Bob Rebello
