Antarctica

Dear [fname],

ThermometerI have EXCITING NEWS to tell you – I have decided to add ANTARCTICA, the southernmost continent, to my worldwide marathons list, which means that I will be finishing marathons on all 7 CONTINENTS. I have signed up and paid my application fee and I will be traveling to Antarctica in March of 2010 with Marathon Tours of Boston, Massachusetts. At age 73 finishing a marathon in Antarctica will be a new and difficult, but very exciting, challenge for me but my hope is that it will bring more worldwide awareness to kidney cancer and the efforts to raise $100k for kidney cancer research in memory of my brother, and best friend, John. I am looking forward to the trip of a lifetime and to finishing a marathon on the planets most spectacular and pristine wilderness. There have been less than 300 people in the world who have finished marathons on all 7 continents so I will be joining a select group of adventurous marathoners.

For your information my new worldwide marathons schedule is:
2008 Berlin, Germany
2009 Stockholm, Sweden
2010 Antarctica [6th continent]
2011 Capetown, South Africa [7th continent]
2012 Boston, Massachusetts

I am committed to finishing my last 5 worldwide marathons and to celebrating my 75th birthday by finishing the Boston marathon in 2012 – my 14th worldwide marathon.

I would appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter so that others can find out about worldwide marathons for kidney cancer research and to give them the opportunity to help in the fight to find a cure for kidney cancer.

Berlin Marathon Donation Update:
As of this date we have raised $1,975.00 for the Berlin marathon and we now only need to raise $1,902.00 to reach our next important donation milestone of $60,000.00. When this milestone is met it will bring us much closer to the goal of raising $100,000.00 for kidney cancer research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center in Boston, Mass; in memory of my brother John. I hope that you will continue to support me in the fight against kidney cancer by donating to this years Berlin marathon. 100% of all of the donations made will go directly to kidney cancer research as I pay for all of the expenses and do all of the work myself. If your company has a Matching Gifts Program I encourage you to use the Program to help in the fight against kidney cancer. Your generous tax-deductible donation will go to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Biologic Therapy Research Program and will be placed in the Dr. Michael Atkins Kidney Cancer research fund in memory of John Rebello. The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centers Tax ID# is 042-103-881. For your information I have broken down the 2008 Berlin, Germany marathon for kidney cancer research donations by the month they were made.

Berlin Training Update:
Berlin Marathon Training Update: The Berlin marathon is only 75 days away and I am in the 7th week of my 18-week 650-mile training program. To increase my flexibility, and maximize my core strength I have added 3 days [1 ½ hour/day] of weight training, 1 day [1 hour] of Pilates, and 1 day [1 hour] of Yoga to my weekly 6 day running program. The rigorous 18-week training program will ensure that I will be ready on marathon day to meet my commitment to my donors to run the entire 26.218 miles and finish as fast as my 72-year-old body can run.

My Sponsors
Each month, starting in the July newsletter, I will be featuring one my sponsors who have over the years generously donated their “Best in Class” products and services to help me meet my goal to raise $100k for kidney cancer research. Without the yearly support and commitment from my sponsors I would find it very difficult to meet my mission. I encourage you, and all of my supporters, to take the time to learn more about my sponsors and their great products and services.

Worldwide Marathons Donations Updates:

US Map of States DonationsAs you can see from the 1999 to 2008 donation sources we have brought kidney cancer awareness to 23 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. To help bring awareness to the other 27 US states [red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer. We are close to coloring all of the New England states green, we only need donations from the states of Maine and Vermont. If you know someone in those states please forward the newsletter to them so that they can become a part of this very worthy cause.

Bob’s Running Humor:
I hope that the humor will bring a smile to your face - to quote Mark Twain “Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritations and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place”. If you have a humorous running story that you would like to share with the newsletter readers please forward it to me at rjreb@aol.com.

Yogi Berra quotes:
• Always go to other peoples funerals; otherwise they won’t come to yours.
• Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.
• No wonder nobody comes here; it’s too crowded.
• We made to many wrong mistakes.
• You can observe a lot by just watching.
• I usually take a two-hour nap from 1-4.
