I NEED YOUR HELP — If we are to meet the goal of raising $100,000.00 for kidney cancer research we need to bring awareness of worldwide marathons to raise money for kidney cancer research to a wider audience. You can help me by forwarding this newsletter to as many people as possible so that they can have the opportunity to join us in the effort to raise money for such a worthy and very important cause.
Dear [fname],
As of this date we only need to raise $3,002.00 to reach our next important donation milestone of $60,000.00. When this
milestone is met it will bring us much closer to the goal of raising $100,000.00 for kidney cancer research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center in Boston, Mass; in memory of my brother John. I hope that you will continue to support me in the fight against kidney cancer by donating to this years Berlin marathon. 100% of all of the donations made will go directly to kidney cancer research as I pay for all of the expenses and do all of the work myself. If your company has a Matching Gifts Program I encourage you to use the Program to help in the fight against kidney cancer. Your generous tax-deductible donation will go to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Biologic Therapy Research Program and will be placed in the Dr. Michael Atkins Kidney Cancer research fund in memory of John Rebello. The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centers Tax ID# is 042-103-881. For your information I have broken down the 2008 Berlin, Germany marathon for kidney cancer research donations by the month they were made.

The Berlin marathon [September 28th] is only 4 months away so I will be starting my 18-week, 750 mile Berlin marathon training program on June 2nd. This year I have added Pilates and weight training as part of my Berlin training program to help me in my personal goal to break 4 hours in a marathon – I’ve come close two times – 4:02 and 4:09 - hopefully this is my year to do it. The rigorous 18-week training program will ensure that I will be ready on marathon day to meet my commitment to my donors to run the entire 26.218 miles and finish as fast as my 72-year-old body will take me. Please take the time to check out this month’s humor and information on Berlin [below].

Each month, starting in the July newsletter, I will be featuring one my sponsors who have over the years generously donated their “Best in Class” products and services to help me meet my goal to raise $100k for kidney cancer research. Without the yearly support and commitment from my sponsors I would find it very difficult to meet my mission. I encourage you, and all of my supporters, to take the time to learn more about my sponsors and their great products and services.

As you can see from the 1999 to 2008 donation sources we have brought kidney cancer awareness to 22 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. To help bring awareness to the other 28 US states [red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer. We are close to coloring all of the New England states green, we only need donations from the states of Maine and Vermont. If you know someone in those states please forward the newsletter to them so that they can become a part of this very worthy cause.

I would not be able to publish my monthly newsletters without the very creative Graphic design work of Christian Riggs, President of Riggs Creative Group. Christian has not only given his time and design expertise to the newsletter but he also designed and maintains my website.

I hope that the humor will bring a smile to your face - to quote Mark Twain “ Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritations and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place”. If you have a humorous running story that you would like to share with the newsletter readers please forward it to me at rjreb@aol.com.
“For every mile you run, you add 1 minute to your life. This enables you, at the age of 85, to spend an additional five months in a nursing home at $5,000.00 a month.”

Berlin is located in eastern Germany, about 44 miles west of the border with Poland in an area with marshy terrain. Berlin’s landscape was shaped by ice sheets during the last ice age. The city center lies along the river Spree in the Berlin-Warsaw Urstromtal [ancient river valley].

Listed below are my corporate sponsors who have generously donated their “Best in Class” products and services to help me meet my mission. Without their generous support it would be very difficult for me to continue my mission.
Have a great day,
