Dear [fname],
Although the donations are down from this time last year I am very confident that we will meet our next important donation milestone of $60,000.00 within the next few months. As of this date we only need to raise $3,352.00 to reach this milestone, which will bring us closer to the goal of raising $100,000.00 for kidney cancer research in memory of my brother John. To bring awareness about worldwide marathons for kidney cancer research to a wider audience I will be speaking to a number of groups and organizations over the next 9 months. My objectives at these speaking engagements will be to bring to their attention the facts about kidney cancer, to let them know all about worldwide marathons for kidney cancer research, and how they can join us in the fight against kidney cancer.

Over the last 10 years we have raised a total of $56,648.00 for kidney cancer research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center in Boston, Massachusetts in memory of my brother John. To meet the goal of raising $100,000.00 we need to raise $43,352.00 over the next 4 years that I will be running worldwide marathons. For your information I have broken down the 2008 Berlin, Germany marathon for kidney cancer research donations by the month they were made as well as where the 10-year total donations came from. As you can see from the 1999 to 2008 donation sources we have brought kidney cancer awareness to 22 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. To help bring awareness to the other 28 US states [red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer. We are close to coloring all of the New England states green, we only need donations from the states of Maine and Vermont. If you know someone in those states please forward the newsletter to them so that they can become a part of this very worthy cause.

I hope that the humor will bring a smile to your face - to quote Mark Twain “ Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritations and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place”. If you have a humorous running story that you would like to share with the newsletter readers please forward it to me at rjreb@aol.com.
A friend of mine runs marathons. He always talks about this “runners high”. But he has to run 26 miles for it. That’s why I smoke and drink. I get the same feeling from a flight of stairs.
