Dear [fname],

Some more good news - we are very close to meeting our next important donation milestone of $60,000.00. As of this date we only need to raise $3,452.00 to reach this milestone which will be bring us closer to the goal of raising $100,000.00 for kidney cancer research in memory of my brother John. My sincere thanks to you and the hundreds of other people who have taken the time to forward my monthly newsletter – keep up the good work – and let’s bring kidney cancer awareness to all of the US states by coloring the US map “GREEN”. We are close to coloring all of the New England states green, we only need donations from the states of Maine and Vermont. If you know someone in those states please forward the newsletter to them so that they can become a part of this very worthy cause.
There are some exciting changes being made to my worldwide marathons Blog and the monthly newsletter-they are as follows:
- Worldwide Marathons Blog: With the help of the graphics expertise of Christian Riggs we will be re-designing my Worldwide Marathons Blog. The design should be completed by the end of April and once it is completed you will be able to follow my day-to-day efforts in preparing for my September 28th Berlin marathon. You will also be able to learn more about my other 9 worldwide marathons, which will include my most memorable “Senior Moments”.
- Bob’s Running Humor: I will be including a running humor section in the monthly newsletter [see below] where I will be putting in humorous running stories that were told to me by my running friends and acquaintances from around the world - I plan on including some of my original cartoon characters in future newsletters. I hope that the humor will bring a smile to your face - to quote Mark Twain “ Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritations and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place”. If you have a humorous running story that you would like to share with the newsletter readers please forward it to me at rjreb@aol.com.

Over the last 10 years we have raised a total of $56,548.00 for kidney cancer research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center in Boston, Massachusetts in memory of my brother John. To meet the goal of raising $100,000.00 we need to raise $43,452.00 over the next 4 years that I will be running worldwide marathons. For your information I have broken down the 2008 Berlin, Germany marathon for kidney cancer research donations by the month they were made as well as where the 10-year total donations came from. As you can see from the 1999 to 2008 donation sources we have brought kidney cancer awareness to 22 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. We recently received a donation from the state of Utah, which brought our count to 22 US States. To help bring awareness to the other 28 US states [red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer.

I would not be able to publish my monthly newsletters without the very creative Graphic design work of Christian Riggs, President of Riggs Creative Group. Christian has not only given his time and design expertise to the newsletter but he also designed and maintains my website.

One man’s hobby was running, he spent all his weekends on the park trails, paying no attention to the weather. One Sunday, early in the morning, he went to the park as usual. It was still dark, cold, and raining very hard, so he decided to return back to his house. He came in, went to his bedroom, undressed and lay near his wife. “What terrible weather today honey”, he said to her. “Yes she replied “but my idiot husband still went running”.
