Dear [fname],

Thermometer

The 2007 Buenos Aires marathon donation results are in and we had a great year!! Because of the generosity of many people over the last 12 months we were able to raise $8,023.00 for kidney cancer research in memory of my brother John. This brings our 9-year total raised for kidney cancer research to $56,098.00, and most importantly, 100% of all the donations went directly to kidney cancer research as I pay for all of the expenses and do all of the work myself.

Last year was the 9th year that I have been running worldwide marathons to raise money for kidney cancer research and each year I have been humbled by the generosity, and support, that I have received from people throughout the U.S. and foreign countries. This year I will continue my efforts to raise money for kidney cancer research by running my 10th worldwide marathon, at the young age of 72, in Berlin, Germany on September 28, 2008. I would greatly appreciate your continued support to help in the fight against kidney cancer by donating to this years Berlin marathon. If your company has a Matching Gifts Program I would greatly appreciate your using the Program to help in the fight against kidney cancer.

Your generous tax-deductible donation will go to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Biologic Therapy Research Program and will be placed in the Dr. Michael Atkins Kidney Cancer research fund in memory of John Rebello. The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centers Tax ID# is 042-103-881

Buenos Aires Marathon Update:
US Map of States DonationsFor your information I have broken down the 2007 Buenos Aires marathon for kidney cancer research donations by the month they were made as well as where the 9-year total donations came from. As you can see from the 1999 to 2007 donation sources we have brought kidney cancer awareness to 20 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. To help bring awareness to the other 30 US states [Red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer.

Berlin, Germany Marathon Training:
I have registered for the September 28, 2008 Berlin, Germany marathon, which will be my 10th worldwide marathon, that I will be running to raise money for kidney cancer research. As part of my Berlin marathon-training schedule I will be running 5k, 10k, and ½ marathon races. I have registered for ½ marathon races in January and February and I will keep you informed concerning my results.

Media Update:Over the years that I have been running my worldwide marathons people have asked me a number of questions – what follows is one of the questions and my answer.

Question: Which worldwide marathon that I ran had the most historic route?
Answer: The Marine Corps Marathon that I ran on October 24, 1999 had the most historic route and it also was the first worldwide marathon that I ran to raise money for kidney cancer research. The marathon race route passed numerous Monuments, Memorials, and Landmarks such as the Kennedy Center, Lincoln, FDR, Korea War, and Vietnam Memorials, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Pentagon and the US Capital. The race route finished at the Marine Corps War Memorial – and as a former marine finishing at the USMC Memorial was my marathon highlight. The Marine Corps Marathon is aptly named the “Marathon of the Monuments”.

Training Update:
The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center [BIDMC] kidney cancer research efforts are being led by Dr. Michael B. Atkins, M.D. He is a cancer clinical investigator and is internationally recognized for his research in renal cancer. Dr. Atkins has led some of the pivotal clinical trials that have influenced the current treatment of patients with renal cancer.
