Dear [fname],

b
ThermometerOutstanding! September was another great fund raising month - we raised a total of $1,035.00. As of this date we have raised a total of $5,191.00 for the Buenos Aires marathon that I will be running on November 4th, to raise money for kidney cancer research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, in memory of my brother, and best friend, John. To meet the 2007 goal to raise $10k by December 31, 2007 we will need to raise $4,809.00 in the next 2 ½ months. With your continued support and generosity I am very confident that we will meet the 2007 goal. With these latest donations the 9-year total raised for kidney cancer research is now $53,266.00  – slowly, but very surely, we are closing in on the goal to raise $100,000.00.

If you have already donated, thank you, if you have not donated I would be honored to have you join the hundreds of people who have made donations to support the efforts to raise money for kidney cancer research.  If your company has a Matching Gifts Program I would greatly appreciate your using the Program to help in the fight against kidney cancer. To ensure that 100% of all donations goes to kidney cancer research I pay all of the expenses and do all of the work myself.

Your generous tax-deductible donation will go to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Biologic Therapy Research Program and will be placed in the Dr. Michael Atkins Kidney Cancer research fund in memory of John Rebello. The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centers Tax ID# is 042-103-881

Buenos Aires Marathon Update:
For your information I have broken down the 2007 Buenos Aires marathon for kidney cancer research donations by the month they were made as well as where the 9-year total donations came from. As you can see from the 1999 to 2007 donation sources we have brought kidney cancer awareness to 20 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. To help bring awareness to the other 30 US states [Red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer.

Buenos Aires Marathon Update:
I am in the 16th week of my 18-week [650 miles] Buenos Aires marathon-training program and I just completed my last long run of 22 miles on October 13th. It has been a very long 16 weeks of training for the marathon but the hard work and dedication have paid off as I have met all of my training goals. My training program has prepared me for the challenge of finishing the Buenos Aires marathon, my 9th worldwide marathon and 5th continent, on November 4th. For the next 3 weeks I will be tapering in preparation for the marathon, to taper effectively for a marathon takes about 3 weeks. Tapering means cutting back on my training, so that my 71-year-old bodycan rebuild to peak strength. Tapering allows my muscles to repair the micro-damage of the daily running, my energy systems to store up glycogen, and my body to overcome the chronic dehydration of hard training. During the 3 weeks of taper I will cut back on my running and will focus mentally, physically, and emotionally on the marathon.

If you know anyone from the US that will be running the 2007 Buenos Aires marathon I would greatly appreciate it if you would have them get in touch with me at rjreb@aol.com. As of this date there are 50 runners from the US that have registered to run the Buenos Aires marathon. Buenos Aires is Argentina’s capital and also its economic powerhouse and cultural cornerstone. Like Washington, D.C; it is a geographically and administratively separate federal district; the 24 counties of Gran Buenos Aires belong to Buenos Aires province, the most populous and important of the country’s 23 provinces. Superficially, Argentina’s constitution resembles that of the United States. The popularly elected President leads the executive branch; the legislature consists of an upper house, the Senate, and a lower Chamber of Deputies; the Supreme Court is the independent judiciary.

Media Update:Over the years that I have been running my worldwide marathons people have asked me a number of questions – what follows is one of the questions and my answer.

Question: Which of my worldwide marathons was the most fun?
Answer: The Medoc marathon that I finished on September 08, 2001 was without a doubt the marathon that I had the most fun at. Over half of the worldwide runners wore elaborate costumes throughout the marathon and there was a costume judging contest before the start of the race. The race route went through the beautiful Medoc vineyards and past 50 Chateaus. There were 21 wine stops along the way as well as food stops that featured – Croissants, Oysters, Figs, Sausages, Cheese, Oranges, and Bananas. At the end of the race each finisher was given a medal along with a backpack with a bottle of wine in it. The winner of the race did not receive money for finishing first but received his weight in wine. As you can see Medoc was not only a marathon but it was also a “Party” – a really great experience.

Training Update:
